General Rules & Procedures
Arrival and Dismissal
JES is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on school days. Students drop off point in the morning, the circular driveway. A staff member will open your car door, greet you, carefully help your child out of the car. If possible, unbuckle your child and have his/her backpack , etc. to get out quickly. There is no need to get out of your car. We ask that you keep conversation with staff at a minimum during this time as to not tie up traffic. We also ask you to follow the line of traffic (which is to the right) when entering the driveway. Do not come in the opposite direction to park or let students out in the parking area.
At dismissal, students are picked up from the main entrance.
7:20 A.M. - 8:00 A.M. Elementary
2:45 P.M. - 3:00 P.M. Elementary
Students who arrive late must go to the office to be marked tardy in the attendance book. They are then walked to class so they do not disturb the morning exercises that are in progress.
Student Release Procedure
Only people listed on the Student Release Authorization Form will be allowed to remove your child from this campus. It is recommended that parents put anyone that could be asked to do this on the authorization list. JES adheres to this procedure adamantly. Telephone calls will not be considered acceptable. The person who picks up your child will have to identify himself with a pictured auto license and be checked against the Student Release Authorization in the child’s file. In many cases the staff members know the regulars and know they are on the list and will allow them to go. Notes authorizing release must be handed directly to a staff member and should not be sent with the student.
Students wear Jonestown Elementary School students wear the navy blue shirts and beige khaki pants . Shirts are worn with beige shorts, slacks or skirts. This
uniform is worn daily.
Jonestown has an “Open Door” policy for parents. To visit the classroom, please go to the office for a pass. Proceed to the classroom and give the pass to the teacher. She will be glad to see you and welcome you. You are asked to sit somewhere on the sidelines and not to engage in much conversation, except when necessary. The children will probably want to show you their work and engage you in an activity. Please refrain from this, if you can politely do so. Also, please try to limit your visit during conference time. So as not to disturb
the routine of the classroom.
Tennis shoes are the most comfortable and safest. No boots, sandals, or flip-flops are allowed. They are not safe for play or sports. Also, leather shoes can be worn.
Parent Meetings are usually held during PSTO or Parent/Teacher Conference two times each year. One is set aside for the children to demonstrate lessons to you and is a popular evening. Attendance is difficult for all of us since we are so busy, but you need to be informed and we need to inform you. This also provides a social time for people to meet one another and do a bit of networking. We find having a PSTO necessary at JES so these meetings are excellent to get together and share ideas. Your attendance is a message of high interest and involvement that words cannot replace.
Low-keyed, non-physical discipline measures are implemented at JES. Please check your student handbook.
